As head of Government Networks Ken has responsibility for the implementation of Connecting Government 2030, in particular the Government as a Platform and Evolving through Innovation streams and the Government Networks service; for supporting key strategic national programmes being undertaken by other bodies; for directing and managing the planning, design and development of policies, strategies, infrastructures and procurements in relation to technologies and telecommunications and cybersecurity for the public service; and EU-related initiatives.
Ken has delivered a nationwide high speed network that provides services for a wide variety of customers including all central and municipal Government bodies, the Irish police force and the national healthcare network. In order to deliver to all areas of the country this network utilises a variety of technologies including DWDM, dark fibre, licensed and unlicensed radio and mobile data as well as the deployment of private 5G bubbles.
Ken has significant experience in the field of Cybersecurity and was one of the authors of the Irish National Cyber Security Centres “Baseline Security Standards”. These standards provide the baseline measures that public sector bodies should implement in order to secure their business environment.
